The CFW Workday with Laura McKenna
Laura McKenna grew up in Ohio and got her first job in radio in La Crosse in 2005. She packed up her stuff, made the move, and has been in Wisconsin ever since! Her favorite season is winter but she loves to spend all summer in her vegetable garden. When she isn't in her pink kitchen cooking up vegetarian recipes, more than likely she's taking bubble baths, reading mystery novels (sometimes while in a bubble bath), cheering for THEE Ohio State Buckeyes, or officiating weddings! She married her best friend from college last year but they still don't live in the same house yet. Laura's favorite way to spend a Friday night is watching Dateline with her cat (Phil Dawson) on her lap. She's thrilled to be back keeping you company during the workday on 105-7 CFW!

Movie Monday: Could your pet be the next movie star?
Everyone thinks their own pet is the cutest and smartest little ball of fur on the planet- me included! But do they have what it takes to be the next Air Bud? Remember the first movie from 1997 where the golden retriever escapes his mean master at the circus and joins a basketball team? Well, […]

In The Kitchen Tip: Laura McKenna’s Zucchini Boats Recipe
I love eating these in the summer fresh from the garden. Here’s the great part about this recipe: I just throw stuff in so it is very forgiving and more of a “guide” than a strict ingredient recipe. So there’s no reason your whole family wouldn’t enjoy it! Start with a large green zucchini. Slice […]

Movie Monday: Love is in the air
The reboot of The Naked Gun did a little more than bring in 17 million at the box office over the weekend. Rumor has it that it also sparked some flames between stars Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson. I personally hope those rumors are true. I’ve always thought Pamela was a sweetheart and hoped she’d […]

An Ode To Cheesecake
What a delightful dessert: Cheesecake. It’s not really a cake and despite its shape, not really a pie. It’s just delicious and it is one of my favorite sweet treats. Check out another one of my favorite videos from Weird History Food that dives into cheesecake and the famous Cheesecake Factory restaurant…. Email anytime, Laura […]

TSA adding some additional lanes for Families and for the Military
I know that everyone’s favorite part of a vacation is the long lines through TSA with different orders being barked at you: “Leave your shoes on!” “No, take them off!” “Put your liquids in here!” “That liquid doesn’t count as a liquid but that solid is a liquid!” What?!?! Now add in a bunch of […]

People will really buy anything.
Did you ever watch one of the million documentaries about Fyre Fest? If you haven’t, brace yourself. And pick any one of them… they’re everywhere: Hulu, Netflix, etc. Even after the creator of Fyre Fest spent time in jail for fraud, they tried to have another Fyre Fest. It got postponed indefinitely. Then they listed […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: The Best Breakfast Sandwich Ever
This IN THE KITCHEN tip actually takes place: IN THE GAS STATION. I’ve had a lot of breakfast sandwiches in my day- from restaurants, grab-and-go convenience stores, and lots of them simply made at home. Hands down, this one is THE BEST. I’m naming it “The McKenna”. Kwik Trip doesn’t know it yet so if […]

Movie Monday: A double feature movie review (and one to grow on)!
I’ve been having a lot of time on my hands with this dumb knee of mine. So while the ice packs have been doing their work, I’ve watched a few series, read a few books, and watched quite a few movies over the last couple of weeks. Here’s what I watched over the 4th of […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Road Trip Cooler Trick
Keep your cooler chilled without ice with this awesome trick. As you prepare for your next road trip, forget filling your cooler with ice. It’s too messy and once it starts melting, everything inside runs the risk of getting soggy. Plus, ice never seems to stay super cold in regular coolers. What about ice packs? […]

Movie Monday: Another Real Life Courtroom Drama Coming Soon
You all know how much I love watching Court TV. I also love movies set in a courtroom, both fictional and based on a true story. Some of my all-time favorite courtroom movies: Primal Fear (1996) is one of my all-time favorites. Murder In The First (1995) is a great movie, too. Let’s also not […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Strawberry Leaf Poppin’
There’s nothing better than fresh strawberries in the summertime. However, if you slice the leaf off the top or dig in there with your fingernail, you run the risk of irritating your skin and wasting a lot of the berry. I like to pop ’em instead. You can use a regular straw but I like […]

Movie Review: The Accountant 2
Sometimes when you watch a movie and you really like it (as I did with The Accountant), you are so excited to hear about a sequel. But then the sequel comes out and it leaves you with that “maybe you should have just stopped while you were ahead” feeling…. This could not be further from […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Best Iced Tea Tip
June 10th is National Iced Tea Day and I have the secret ingredient to making the best, fresh brewed iced tea! Baking soda. Just a 1/4 tsp. makes all the difference. Add a 1/4 tsp. of baking soda per every gallon of tea that you brew. Just that little bit of baking soda makes the […]

Movie Monday: Tom Cruise is a beast!
If Tom Cruise is in a movie, I’m putting it on my list because I want to watch it. I’m a big fan. But even those that are just so-so on the Tom Cruise love can’t deny, the man puts everything he has into his performances. I haven’t seen the Mission Impossible movies yet (I […]

Movie Monday: The casting for two great books being turned into movies
I love a good book and I love a good movie. But not all great books turn into great movies. There’s nothing worse than loving a book and being so disappointed when you see that book made all wrong on the big screen. Sometimes it’s a switch in the plot. Don’t do that to us […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Burger Tips
May 28th is National Burger Day! Despite being a vegetarian, I know my way around a delicious burger. It’s alllll about the toppings and I think there’s something that’s way underutilized: ONIONS! Now I love onions in all form and fashion: red, sweet, caramelized, raw. You name it, I’ll eat ’em. I also love an […]

Laura McKenna’s pick for the best sunscreen
This is a great example of “Do as I say, not as I do.” Yesterday, I planted my garden and I didn’t use any sunscreen. Today, I’ve turned into a juicy red tomato. Ugh! And I know better! May 27th is National Sunscreen Day for a reason. While I do love soaking up sunshine’s Vitamin […]

It’s Palindrome Time!
You might be wondering: What’s a palindrome? Well, I’m glad you asked because we’re in a Palindrome Week! The dates can be written the same frontward or back. For instance, today is May 21, 2025. That’s 5-21-25 or 52125 (read the same from the front or the back). That will continue all the way until […]

Movie Monday: Rest In Peace, grumpy Morris
We haven’t had an In Memoriam segment during our Movie Mondays before, but if anyone deserves it, it’s Morris. You will remember this gator from films like Happy Gilmore, Eraser, Dr. Doolittle 2, and even Interview with the Vampire. In fact, he’s been in over 30 Hollywood films. Morris was a little too aggressive on […]

One of my favorite gadgets of all time is my Weed Popper. It’s an organic gardener’s dream weeding machine. You won’t need batteries, gasoline, or a cord. Just a little muscle. In fact, you won’t need much muscle at all. Why do I love my Weed Popper so much? Let me count the ways: 1. […]

Movie Monday: Happy Anniversary to Friday the 13th!
I love scary movies and being an 80’s baby, I’m a little partial to the grainy quality of 80’s horror movies. A Nightmare on Elm Street, Child’s Play, and of course, Friday the 13th. I love ’em all. But there was something about the hockey mask. The chhh-chhh-chhh-haa-haa-haa. The slow, lumbering walk that always caught […]
