The CFW Workday with Laura McKenna

Laura McKenna grew up in Ohio and got her first job in radio in La Crosse in 2005. She packed up her stuff, made the move, and has been in Wisconsin ever since! Her favorite season is winter but she loves to spend all summer in her vegetable garden. When she isn't in her pink kitchen cooking up vegetarian recipes, more than likely she's taking bubble baths, reading mystery novels (sometimes while in a bubble bath), cheering for THEE Ohio State Buckeyes, or officiating weddings! She married her best friend from college last year but they still don't live in the same house yet. Laura's favorite way to spend a Friday night is watching Dateline with her cat (Phil Dawson) on her lap. She's thrilled to be back keeping you company during the workday on 105-7 CFW!

Movie Monday: The casting for two great books being turned into movies

I love a good book and I love a good movie. But not all great books turn into great movies. There’s nothing worse than loving a book and being so disappointed when you see that book made all wrong on the big screen. Sometimes it’s a switch in the plot. Don’t do that to us […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Burger Tips

May 28th is National Burger Day! Despite being a vegetarian, I know my way around a delicious burger. It’s alllll about the toppings and I think there’s something that’s way underutilized: ONIONS! Now I love onions in all form and fashion: red, sweet, caramelized, raw. You name it, I’ll eat ’em. I also love an […]

Laura McKenna’s pick for the best sunscreen

This is a great example of “Do as I say, not as I do.” Yesterday, I planted my garden and I didn’t use any sunscreen. Today, I’ve turned into a juicy red tomato. Ugh! And I know better! May 27th is National Sunscreen Day for a reason. While I do love soaking up sunshine’s Vitamin […]

It’s Palindrome Time!

You might be wondering: What’s a palindrome? Well, I’m glad you asked because we’re in a Palindrome Week! The dates can be written the same frontward or back. For instance, today is May 21, 2025. That’s 5-21-25 or 52125 (read the same from the front or the back). That will continue all the way until […]

Movie Monday: Rest In Peace, grumpy Morris

We haven’t had an In Memoriam segment during our Movie Mondays before, but if anyone deserves it, it’s Morris. You will remember this gator from films like Happy Gilmore, Eraser, Dr. Doolittle 2, and even Interview with the Vampire. In fact, he’s been in over 30 Hollywood films. Morris was a little too aggressive on […]

Weed Popping

One of my favorite gadgets of all time is my Weed Popper. It’s an organic gardener’s dream weeding machine. You won’t need batteries, gasoline, or a cord. Just a little muscle. In fact, you won’t need much muscle at all. Why do I love my Weed Popper so much? Let me count the ways: 1. […]

Movie Monday: Happy Anniversary to Friday the 13th!

I love scary movies and being an 80’s baby, I’m a little partial to the grainy quality of 80’s horror movies. A Nightmare on Elm Street, Child’s Play, and of course, Friday the 13th. I love ’em all. But there was something about the hockey mask. The chhh-chhh-chhh-haa-haa-haa. The slow, lumbering walk that always caught […]

Mother’s Day is Sunday. The perfect gift won’t cost you a thing!

Kelly Clarkson may have just made Mother’s Day shopping easier and more awesome for everyone! What is the perfect gift for Moms? It doesn’t cost a thing….. Even for me as a Cat Mom, I agree! I hope my kitty, Phil Dawson, wants a good sleep-in day on Sunday. Although I’m not going to count […]

Movie Monday: It’s only May. Do we already have the biggest movie flop of the year?

One of the most talked about movies of the year opened in theaters over the weekend. Sadly, it wasn’t that the hype came from anticipation of plot or special effects or anything that would bring a smile to movie goers faces… Rust will always be the movie people talk about for the death, injury, court […]

Movie Monday: Documentary about one of the most influential painters in our modern lives- the “light” and the dark side

Think of a famous painter that existed in your lifetime. Maybe Bob Ross comes to mind with his “happy little trees”. He hosted the popular The Joy of Painting, an instructional television program that aired from 1983 to 1994 on PBS. His iconic hair and soothing instructional voice mesmerized a lot of us viewers for many […]

Earth Day Tips & Tricks to save Mother Nature and save you money!

Bring Your Own MugI keep a bagful of clean, reusable tumbler mugs in my car so they’re at the ready when I’m out and about. Many convenience stores and businesses will offer a discount if you use your own clean cup and price it as a “refill”. You save a disposable cup from being tossed […]

Movie Monday: If you want a really good thriller, add this movie to your watch list…

Today happens to be actor James McAvoy‘s 46th birthday and I just so happened to watch a movie over the weekend that the birthday boy starred in. But to say he starred in this movie doesn’t even seem good enough. He was great. In fact, every movie I’ve ever seen with him in it is […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Banana Crunch Muffin Recipe

Forget the banana bread on this National Banana Day. You MUST, MUST, must instead make these Banana Crunch Muffins. They are THE BEST!! Movie Monday: The Breakfast Club reunion we didn’t even know we needed

One of my favorite movies from the ’80s: The Breakfast Club They just don’t make movies like that anymore….literally. According to the cast, they probably won’t make them like that anymore either. Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, and Anthony Michael Hall sat down together for the first time in 40 years at the […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Bread Making Tips

FUN FACT (that I don’t find very fun at all): Don’t slice bread while it’s still warm, fresh out of the oven!  Honestly, this goes against everything I live for because bread hot out of the oven tastes THE BEST! But cutting off the first slice right away might make the rest of the loaf […]

If you’re like me, I sometimes just make up my own words to a song. Not that I do it on purpose or anything. I genuinely think I’m correctly singing along but what I hear sometimes (ok, most of the time) ends up being something completely different than what I see when I look at […]
