Go Ahead, Indulge!
It’s Thanksgiving! Time to see how much we can eat, how much we can drink, how much family dynamics we can handle, how much football we can watch, and do all of it without falling asleep on the couch. I urge everyone to indulge in what makes you feel good. Whether it’s an extra serving […]

Congrats Blackhawks!
What an incredible season. Even though it didn’t end the way we all wanted, we are so proud of our hometown BW Blackhawks football team. You played hard, kept your heads up, and showed the state how incredible you are. You did us proud!

It’s Getting a Bit Thin Up There!
When I was a kid, my hair was so thick, the stylist would have to use thinning shears. If only I had a dollar for every time I heard, “You’ll never have to worry about a lack of hair!” Um, yeah. My first thought is how the passing of time can be so cruel. I’m […]

27 Year Old vs 58 Year Old?
If you’re like most people, you’re hoping to see Iron Mike knock Jake Paul out tonight. There’s a certain nostalgia to seeing Mike Tyson enter the ring. After all, he’s arguably the greatest boxer that’s ever lived. His record is incredible. But with the passage of time comes age, and with age comes deficits. A […]

The Habit I Cannot Break!
This blog is going to get a bit personal. You’ve been warned! Some habits are tough to break. Some are downright impossible. 22 years ago, I quit smoking. That was a huge accomplishment. 12 years ago, I got healthy and lost over 50 lbs. Another huge accomplishment for me. I know this is gross, and […]

Ode to Elwood
You may not recognize the name Elwood Edwards, but I can guarantee that you know his voice. In 1989, Elwood recorded the voice prompts for America Online. AOL was the way a majority of us (now old people) connected to the Internet back in the day. After hearing the sound of our 14.4, 28.8, or […]

Kindness Wins!
Well, there’s no doubt about it. This was a hard fought campaign for both candidates. The unfortunate side of elections is all of the negative “mudslinging” that happens between all parties. Whether or not your candidate won, I think most of us are thankful that it is over. No more negative campaign ads! It’s certainly […]

Thank you!
Today is National First Responders Day. I want to say “thank you” to all of the heroic and brave men and women that serve as first responders. Firefighters, police, EMT’s, paramedics, among others….put themselves in harms way to help and protect us. They are often the first to arrive, and take immediate action in the […]

Politics and Humanity
Well, there’s no doubt about it. We are in the heat of the political firestorm known as election season. I’m sure a lot of people agree that the happiest days are the ones that follow an election. Not necessarily because one candidate is victorious and another is not, but rather, the end of the election […]

Apples!
So yesterday on the air, I mentioned how it was National Apple Day. Last weekend, we visited the apple orchard for the first time this season. I was faced with the dilemma of choosing Honeycrisp or SweeTango. Both are equally delicious, but the Honeycrisp lives up to its name, super crunchy and very sweet! I […]

Tipping
It’s an age-old question. How much should I tip? With restaurant/bar servers, 15%-20% has been the golden rule for many years. But these days, with seemingly everyone putting out the tip jar (even in situations where tipping isn’t usually part of the equation) you might ask yourself if that rule still applies. I’m generally a […]

Go Away, Milton!
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our friends and the good people of Florida, as they face the wrath of Hurricane Milton. We sincerely hope that everyone has heeded the warnings from emergency management officials and taken the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones. Natural disasters of this magnitude require […]

Snakes!!!
What is it about this time of year that brings out the snakes!? I live in a wooded area, with nearby lakes and wetland. Nearly on a daily basis, I see a snake slithering across our road, or in my yard. Usually it’s when I’m walking through the yard unsuspectingly……and BAM, there’s a snake at […]

What Would You Do?
OK, here’s the scenario. Last weekend, some friends and I were out to eat. I ordered a cheeseburger that looked amazing on the menu, and when it showed up, it looked equally amazing! My first bite seemed a little bit off, as I felt something tugging on my lower lip, I could instantly tell that […]

Mental Border Battle
Sometimes being a football fan is really hard. You want to support your team 100%, no matter what is going on, but it’s not always easy. Especially when you are from one state but live and work in another. I was born and raised in Minnesota and will always be a lifelong Vikings fan, but […]

It’s Not Too Early!
As we bid farewell to another summer, I’m reminded of how much I don’t like winter. I know what you’re thinking: “Jay, it’s not even fall yet, and you’re complaining about winter already?” Yes, yes I am. Because as enjoyable as fall can be, it’s a stark reminder of what’s coming next. Long after the […]

Summer….
Every year, we say the same thing: “I can’t believe summer’s already over!” “It goes by too fast!” My personal favorite, “I’m moving somewhere where it’s always summer!” The last one is my line, I say it every single year without fail. But 47 years into my life, and I still live up here. I […]

The Cicada (Killers) Are Coming!
Actually, they’re already here. Actually, they never left. You might be wondering what in the heck I’m talking about. Have you ever seen a wasp the size of a hummingbird? Well, almost that big. They sure sound like hummingbirds when they fly near you. Those are cicada killer wasps. As you can imagine, cicadas don’t […]

Adulting?
It has taken me a long time to figure out what adulting really is. Actually, it’s taken me a really long time to figure out how to post a blog on our website. Maybe that’s adulting? Figuring out how to do something that seemed to be so much easier as a kid. Although we didn’t […]

No guts, no glory
Follow your heart. Dreams can come true. Those two phrases are definitely cliché, but meaningful. When I was in 6th grade, my teacher invited a friend of hers to come speak to our class about what she does for a living. She was a co-host of the afternoon show on a radio station in Minneapolis. […]
