Is it ‘the band’ or a tribute band?

I had this conversation with a buddy of mine recently. We were on the topic of a well known rock band that has been together and touring for decades. He called them a tribute band. His thought was the original singer wasn’t in the band and only a couple of the original members were still in the band. I said, that’s true but with that logic Van Halen would have been a tribute band after David Lee Roth moved on to a solo career. Myself, I know who the “original members” of a band were but I also still like the music and depending on the reasons a member or two have moved on makes a difference. I guess I’m just happy that I’ve been around to see and enjoy their music over the years. One more thing, there’s nothing like LIVE music so I say, enjoy! What do you think?
