GREEN BAY, WI- (WGBW) – The Shipyard District, Inc. (SDI) officially announced a new public-private partnership with the City of Green Bay. The City formally recognized it as Green Bay’s newest district Monday.

The SDI is home to the annual All Bands On Deck, Green Bay’s largest music festival featuring over 100 performances by bands at district bars, restaurants, and food trucks. SDI Director Tarl Knight said the All Band On Deck and other events have generated almost half a million dollars in economic impact.

Shipyard District partnership

“Over the last four years, Shipyard District Inc. has continued to collaborate with the City of Green Bay through difficult challenges and rewarding accomplishments,” Knight said. “Now, Shipyard District, Inc. is proud to finally announce with the City of Green Bay a public/private partnership between our organizations and the formal recognition of Shipyard District Inc. as the representative business association for our district.”

Knight said the official partnership and recognition of Green Bay means improvements and economic strategy can occur.

Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich said the city has plans for the area. Those plans include investment to modernize Drop Forge and moving the coal piles from the area.

“ We have some grand plans for this part of town,” Genrich said. “I don’t know if there’s an area that’s seen as much activity and as much investment as the city’s demonstrated in this area of South Broadway here. And we’re looking forward to much more in the future with the shipyard park itself.”

Formed in 2021 by business and property owners along South Broadway and State Streets on Green Bay’s west side, SDI serves the commercial and residential area from West Mason Street to Lombardi Avenue between South Ashland Avenue and the Fox River.
