RACINE, Wis. – (WRJN) – A door-to-door operation will be running in Racine this weekend. The American Red Cross of Wisconsin and the Racine Fire Department are joining forces to make homes safer by hosting the annual Sound the Alarm event Saturday. The goal is to install free smoke alarms and educate people about fire safety.

About 50 volunteers will gather for training before going from home to home in Racine neighborhoods, targeting approximately 140 residences.

The initiative is designed to help prevent home fire deaths, as having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half, according to the Red Cross.

During the event, volunteers will install alarms, help people create fire escape plans, and share safety tips with residents.

Volunteers will be meeting up at 8 a.m. for registration and training before heading out to canvass the community.
