
Mudcats with walk-off win Sunday
MUSCODA, Wis (WRCO / WRCE) – The Muscoda Mudcats enjoyed a 2-1 walk off win against visiting Wiota in Sunday league home talent baseball.
The win improves their record to 2-5 while Wiota fell to 3-4. It was a defensive battle throughout, with Alex Meister of Muscoda pitching seven of the nine innings. He struck out three, walked two, giving up seven hits and just one run. Ben Conway worked seven from the mound and struck out six, walked one, and yielded six hits. Max Ament worked to two batters in the eighth, and Gage Banfield pitched the remainder of the game while suffering the loss. Tyson Starkey was the winning pitcher for Muscoda after striking out two, walking one, and pitching two hitless innings.
Wiota scored its only run in the 5th when Breylin Goebel singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Reagon Jackson. The 1-0 score did not change until one out in the 9th inning. Tyson Starkey singled for Muscoda, Logan Olson walked. Both runners stole a base and were waiting at 2nd and 3rd base when Kacey Layton stepped to the plate and stroked the 2nd pitch he saw into left center field to plate the 2 runners. Muscoda’s only lead in the game came on the games final play. Josh Cartwright and Tyson Starkey both were 2 for 4. Cade Janeke was 2 for 3 with a walk for the Indians in the loss.
Following the 2-1 win, Muscoda will prepare for a busy 4th of July weekend. They will host Verona on the 4th at 1 pm.
