Monday, July 14

The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Vernon County offers a free social group for individuals with early-stage dementia. The social group meets on the second and last Mondays of the month from 10:0a0 to 11:30a at the McIntosh Memorial Library conference room in Viroqua. The social group provides an opportunity to meet other people on a similar journey and share life stories with each other. Spouses, adult children, and friends are encouraged to join the group, too. A “Picnic in the Park for the Pool” will be held Monday, July 14, from 4:00p to 7:00p at Kronshage Park in Boscobel. There will be brats, hamburgers, and hot dogs, as well as beverages, chips and homemade bars, to help raise money for a new swimming pool. Doug Wayne will be providing music to enjoy as you eat.

The River Valley Film Club and American Players Theatre will present a classic movie in a historic space. First shown at Taliesin in 1935, The 39 Steps is a classic comedy thriller and a highlight of Alfred Hitchcock’s directing career. It will be presented Monday, July 14, at 7:00p. Tuesday, July 15

The Muscoda Utility Department will be flushing hydrants Tuesday, July 15, through Thursday, July 17. During the flushing process, you may experience temporary water discoloration or pressure drop. This is a normal and expected occurrence. If you notice any discoloration in your water, it is recommended to turn on the faucet and let it run for a few minutes until the water is clear. SPARK!, creative engagement programs for people with memory loss and their care partners will meet on the third Tuesday of each month from 10:00a to 11:30a. Registration is required. Call 563-873-3537.

The Deke Slayton Memorial Space & Bicycle Museum in Sparta is celebrating its 50th anniversary. A number of programs will be held to celebrate. Rocket Day will be held Tuesday, July 15, from 10:00a to 1:00p. Create and launch air rockets, straw rockets, and Alka Seltzer rockets. Hands Around the Museum will be held Thursday, July 17, at 2:00p. You are invited to gather for a group picture with the Deke Slayton statue. A panel discussion will be held Saturday, July 19, at 1:00p at Sparta High School featuring Deke’s son, Kent Slayton; Bill Moon, retired NASA flight controller for ASTP; and Jeff Williams, retired astronaut from Winter, Wisconsin. On Sunday, July 20, at 3:00p, Sharing Space with Deke featuring ASTP kids will be held at the museum and via Zoom. It will feature Kent Slayton in person, and Dionne & Karin Stafford, and Stephanie Brand via Zoom. The cost to attend is $10.

Enjoy a night of Euchre every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:30p at the Mick Memorial Park Community Building in Hub City.

A Red Cross Blood Drive will be held Wednesday, July 16, from 9:00a to 2:00p at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Baraboo. Appointments are preferred by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or go online to redcrossblood.org.

The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Vernon County will be offering a free Dementia Caregiver support group. Monthly meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of the month, from 3:00p to 4:00p at the Hillsboro Public Library community room. The first meeting will be July 16. A Flag Retirement ceremony, sponsored by Chapter VII Vietnam Veterans, will be held Wednesday, July 16, beginning at 5:00p at 32742 Cold Spring Lane, Lone Rock. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Richland County 4-H will host an Exploring Program Wednesday, July 16, from 6:00p to 7:00p at the Extension Office. Designed for grades 2 to 5, participants can discover what sparks them. Learn more about 4-H and what is available.

The Music in the Parks, presented by the Friends of Vernon County Parks and Forests, concert series will be held Wednesday night, July 16, with Seaside Zoo performing at Sidie Hollow County Park. The free concert will run from 6:00p to 8:30p. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the music. Shake Rag Alley in Mineral Point will host Makers & Shakers Art Party: Urban Sketching Wednesday, July 16, from 6:30p to 8:30p at the Lind Pavilion. Urban sketching is a unique way of capturing a specific time and place, and a fun way to connect with other sketchers of all ages and abilities. Drawing paper, ballpoint pens, and various other drawing media will be provided. Be prepared to sketch outdoors if the weather cooperates. The project fee is $5. The fee is waived for middle and high school students. Register at ShakeRagAlley.org.

Thursday, July 17

The Village of Blue River will be shutting off the water supply for short periods of time Thursday, July 17 from 9:00a to 4:00p.

If you’re the main caregiver of a person living with dementia, you can join Agrace for a new “how-to” education series, Learning to Live with Dementia. The classes are taught by Agrace staff who have experience caring for people who have dementia. “Facility Support when You Need It,” will be held Thursday, July 17, from Noon to 1:00p, and “Living at Home with Dementia”, will be Tuesday, July 29, from Noon to 1:00p. The Richland Center Lions will be hosting a monthly evening at the Fairgounds to sell concessions the third Thursday of each month from 5:00p to 8:00p through September. The final night will be Thursday, October 9. Car enthusiasts are invited to bring their cars to showcase.

The Walk with GRACE planning committee meets the third Thursday of each month at 6:00p at the GRACE Office. All are welcome to attend. Volunteers are always needed. The GRACE Office is located above Royal Bank in downtown Richland Center.
