Movie Monday: Special Wisconsin ties to the movie BACKROOMS

Big news for fans of the new movie Backrooms – it’s getting a sequel. That sequel will also be directed by the same 20-year-old filmmaker, Kane Parsons. He now holds the record for the youngest filmmaker in the country to have a film open #1 at the box office.

The photo that inspired Backrooms shares a special tie to Wisconsin.

Kane Parson’s 2022 YouTube series ‘The Backrooms,’ used an image of an empty department store- fluorescent lights, completely bare with stained carpet, yellowed walls, no windows, and what seemed like an endless maze of rooms.

It was originally posted on 4chan with the caption, “If you’re not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you’ll end up in the Backrooms, where it’s nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in. God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell heard you.

In real life, picture was taken during a remodel of a furniture store in Oshkosh that was being turned into a Hobbytown in 2003. Now it’s a store called “John’s Hobbie’s”.

To celebrate the building and thank Wisconsin for the movie inspiration, a billboard was taken out in Oshkosh leading up to the movie’s debut in theaters. So fun!
