EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WCFW) – UW-Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley Technical College have announced a new agreement aimed at making it easier for students to transfer.
The agreement is meant to remove a common barrier for students pursuing an associate degree to continue their education in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. Officials say the new collaborative effort is also meant to recognize the quality of the business courses offered at Chippewa Valley Technical College.
According to a Leader Telegram report, the agreement will allow students at Chippewa Valley Technical College to transfer all 60 credits from their associates degree towards the 120-credit requirement for the Bachelor of Business Administration program at UW-Eau Claire. Chippewa Valley Technical College has similar agreements in place for Arts and Science degree programs at UW-Eau Claire, UW-River Falls, and UW-Stout.
In addition to the new transfer agreement, UW-Eau Claire will offer six $2,000 scholarships for transferring students beginning next Fall. The scholarships are meant to address one of the largest driving factors for students choosing to pursue an associates degree first, the higher cost of attending a four year university. Some students also begin their higher education career with the intention of receiving an associates degree, and later decide they wish to continue their studies.
Over recent years, the Universities of Wisconsin has been working to enroll more in-state students at their schools. Earlier this year, officials announced nearly 34,000 high school seniors had been automatically admitted to Universities of Wisconsin schools through the new Direct Admit Wisconsin program.
While UW-Eau Claire is one of three schools that does not automatically admit those students, the new transfer agreement represents an alternative solution for encouraging more local students to enroll.
