Scott Rogers, Senior Director of Governmental Affairs for the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce, will run for City Council President.
In a press release this week, Rogers announced that he will retire from his position at the Chamber of Commerce in February in order to run for City Council President in April. The announcement comes about a week after current Eau Claire City Council President Emily Berge announced she would not seek reelection to the position in order to focus on her campaign for Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District.
Rogers owned and operated a small business in Eau Claire prior to joining the Chamber of Commerce. Since that change, he has served on a number of boards, commissions, and task forces tackling issues like housing and transportation.
Rogers says he’s running to bring the entire Eau Claire community together to continue the positive growth the City has seen over recent years. “I’m really committed to making it a clearly non-partisan and non-ideological position that I think I can work across the spectrum to really think about what is important for the future of Eau Claire,” he said. “We have a lot of great things happening and to bring people together and make the decisions we need to make to continue our growth and the exciting parts of living in Eau Claire and seeing to its future.”
In line with that goal, Rogers also says he’s hoping to develop strong partnerships with local businesses and community members as well as other local governments to solve persistent issues like affordable housing, transportation, and budget concerns.
“Well, I think some of it is working on partnerships,” he said. “I think that’s critically important, that the city has positive partnerships with its other local governments, with institutions within the community, with the business community, with individual citizens. And so the partnerships is a really big thing because with our fiscal challenges, what are the things we can do to work together to create new revenue sources or make sure that our services are efficient.”
Rogers is the second candidate to officially announce their campaign for City Council President. Jeremy Gragert, a former City Council member and community advocate, launched his campaign for the seat last week.
