Be sure to check for ticks after working anywhere outdoors for Earth Day or any other time. These creepy little critters have already been spotted in our area this spring.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services wants you to “Fight the Bite” and prevent illnesses like Lyme disease, which is carried by ticks. The best way to stay healthy is by preventing tick bites in the first place.

Tips to Prevent Tick Bites

  • Use Repellent: Apply repellent to your skin and clothes that contains at least 20-30% DEET.
  • Dress Appropriately: Wear long sleeves and pants. For extra protection, tuck your pant legs into your socks and your shirt into your pants.
  • Wear Light Colors: Light-colored clothing makes it much easier to spot ticks before they reach your skin.

Always perform a thorough tick check immediately after coming inside. If you do find a tick attached to your skin, remove it promptly using a pair of tweezers.
