The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh (BGCO), in partnership with Discover Oshkosh and Westhaven Golf Club, today announced the launch of Operation: Sunscreen, a community-wide sunscreen donation drive running through June.
The initiative aims to ensure that every child at the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh can safely enjoy an active, healthy, and memorable summer outdoors without the worry of sunburn or long-term skin damage.
Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh served more than 2,000 kids in 2025. During the summer months, hundreds of BGCO kids spend countless hours enjoying outdoor activities — from field games and playground time to sports, Camp Radford nature walks and other summer day trips. To keep those kids protected while they play, the Club uses approximately 25–30 bottles of sunscreen every week. Those costs add up quickly, and Operation: Sunscreen is the answer.
“Sun protection isn’t just a comfort — it’s a health necessity,” said Alex Hummel, Director of Advancement at Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh. “Operation: Sunscreen is about giving every Club kid and their family the confidence to play freely, build friendships and make the kind of memories that last a lifetime. We’re grateful to Discover Oshkosh and Westhaven Golf Club for helping us turn community generosity into summer smiles.”
A Safe-Summer Collaboration
The partnership brings together three Oshkosh organizations united by a commitment to community recreation and well-being. Discover Oshkosh, whose mission is to promote the city and area as a premier destination for corporate, sports and leisure groups and individual visitors, is lending its reach and resources to amplify the drive across the broader community. Westhaven Golf Club is joining as longtime Club friend and ideal westside Oshkosh drop-off location and community champion, encouraging its guests and patrons to contribute to the cause.
“Oshkosh is a community that takes care of its kids, and this drive is a wonderful example of local organizations coming together to help protect Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh members as they enjoy our vibrant parks and other outdoor offerings,” said Discover Oshkosh Executive Director Amy Albright.
“Every day, our business celebrates the benefits of healthy outdoor activity, and we’re proud to support the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh as they create those same opportunities for local kids,” said Dave Richter, a golf course partner. “Operation: Sunscreen is a simple way our community can help ensure young people stay safe while enjoying all the adventures summer has to offer. We’re honored to be a partner in this effort and invite our guests and neighbors to join us in supporting Club kids.”
