This blog is going to get a bit personal. You’ve been warned!
Some habits are tough to break. Some are downright impossible. 22 years ago, I quit smoking. That was a huge accomplishment. 12 years ago, I got healthy and lost over 50 lbs. Another huge accomplishment for me. I know this is gross, and please don’t judge me, but the one habit I just can’t break, and this is a lifelong one…..chewing my fingernails! I don’t know what it is that keeps me coming back for the fingertip buffet. Certainly not the taste! It’s not aesthetically appealing, either. Nobody looks good with mangled, jagged fingernails. Plus, let’s not forget the germs! People who chew their nails are more likely to get sick. (And I’m a germophobe!)
So the question I often ask myself is, “Why do I do it?” It must be a subconscious thing. Or maybe undiagnosed anxiety. Or…..boredom? I’m too busy to be THAT bored! I’m going with the subconscious excuse. 🤷🏼♂️
