Memories, thanks to Google Maps?

This morning I had a little extra time on my hands (which doesn’t happen very often) and I decided to look on Google Maps, at some street views of my old neighborhood in Minnesota. I remember when Street View first became a thing, people got nervous because they thought it would be an invasion of privacy. In reality, it’s one of the coolest things ever! Basically, it’s the same as driving by in your car, except for you don’t have to travel to get there. And it allows us to look back on images from the past to see how a particular neighborhood has changed. I started looking at our old neighborhood, then decided to look a couple of towns over where my dad used to own his business. I started thinking of all of the people I knew there, and how most of them are no longer with us. It was a fun trip down memory lane. But I have to be honest, it made me quite sad! So many highly influential people in my life are no longer walking this earth, sometimes it almost seems surreal.
I guess that is part of getting older. I think that I can consider myself lucky to say that I have the opportunity to get older, not everyone has that opportunity in their life.
(Remember “Deep Thoughts with Jack Handy” on SNL?

You’re probably familiar with these incredible vacation offers that “vacation clubs” send out to people, promising an amazing multi-day stay at a posh Caribbean resort for the price of your local Super 8 Motel. I know the catch: To avoid being billed the full retail value of the stay, you must attend a 90-minute sales […]

Brrrr!!
Well, we are definitely at a weather turning point. This week is (meteorologically) the coldest week of the winter. Historically, this week lives up to it, too. It seems the third week of January is when we tend to see some high temperatures stay subzero. Things could certainly change, but as of right now it […]

There’s a Light at the End of the Tunnel!
I mean it! There literally is a light at the end of the tunnel, and that light is more daylight! OK, before I get too excited, let me explain. Tomorrow is the first day of winter. And it’s also the shortest visible daylight day of the year. The days will then start getting longer. This […]
