To all my fellow Cancer Zodiac signs, it’s time to celebrate! June 21st marks the start of the sun traveling through our constellation. The entire reign of Cancer runs through July 22nd.
Make no mistake though, us crabs are a complex bunch. We are the life of the party but we really enjoy our alone time – and thoroughly enjoy our home time. The best way to describe us: “Home is where the heart is.”
We’re emotional. We’re protective. We’re also very VERY sentimental. In fact, one of the best gifts I received in the last year was a personalized birth chart that my husband secretly researched and customized just for me. He wrote a complete booklet exploring all my aspects, houses, rising signs, and everything in between for July 7th. He spent so much time and a crazy amount of effort making it. I appreciated it so much but it really didn’t surprise me. He dove right in to the unknown and was so determined to get to the bottom of everything- he’s a Scorpio, after all. Determined. Persistent. And Curious. Yup, that’s him. And the perfect match for this loyal Cancer gal.
What made it even more special is that before he started researching all the horoscopes (or “hocus pocus” as he had called it once), he didn’t even believe in any of it. But he knew I loved it. So the fact that he secretly studied and researched the charts and signs for more than a year to surprise me with an in-depth birth chart analysis (all the while still wanting to call it silly but then finding it harder to argue with the more he learned) made it so much more impressive. It was the best gift ever. And I’m a Cancer, so of course I cried when I opened it.
I hope you Cancerians have the best birthdays over these next few weeks. Surround yourself with all the things you love (animals, family, and home). Do things that make your heart happy (tell exciting stories and create something spectacular no matter how big or small). Celebrate this season of Cancer! You’re one of kind.

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Pierogi
I’m always amazed to hear that so many people have never had a pierogi! You have no idea what you’re missing. Homemade versions are delicious but there’s nothing wrong with grabbing a box from the frozen food aisle to try. You can boil these mashed potato dumplings and garnish as you wish…. Or, try my […]

Movie Review: The Exorcism of Emily Rose
The fact that I waited 20 years to watch this movie is a crying shame! The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) combines two of my favorite kinds of movies: Courtroom Dramas and Scary Movies (especially the demonic possession kind). For fans of the show Ozark, you’ll recognize Laura Linney. She plays the defense attorney that […]

Movie Review: Trap
It pains me to say this about an M. Night Shyamalan movie, but I found one I didn’t like. We’ve joked on the show that I should be the captain of the “Give M. Night Movies A Try” fan club because the critics are usually so harsh and while I haven’t seen all of his […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Orange Vinaigrette Recipe
I’ve been on an Oil & Vinegar dressing kick lately but I also like a zingy Raspberry Vinaigrette every now and again. I had a few extra oranges on hand and thought- How about an Orange Vinaigrette? That might be tasty! So I messed around and came up with this perfect ratio of a sweet […]
