You all know how much I love watching Court TV. I also love movies set in a courtroom, both fictional and based on a true story.
Some of my all-time favorite courtroom movies:
Primal Fear (1996) is one of my all-time favorites. Murder In The First (1995) is a great movie, too. Let’s also not forget about Legally Blonde (2001) for those that like a little more laughter in the their courtroom movies.
But the recent real life case that fascinated me was the murder trial (and retrial) of Karen Read. She stood trial in Massachusetts, charged with the murder of her police officer boyfriend, John O’Keefe, in 2022. If you didn’t watch both trials, you may have seen one of the recent Dateline or 20/20 episodes that focused on her case. There are also quite a few documentaries that came out before the recent not guilty verdicts for murder and manslaughter were handed down this month. One of those more popular docuseries was A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read.
Now, we’ll be getting a movie. According to reports, Karen Read and her defense attorney, Alan Jackson, were offered a movie deal from LBI Productions. They’ll partner to develop the script about Karen Read’s case.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Karen Read released this statement:
“I’ve lived in this town with John. I saw what it takes for a small group of powerful people to be ‘above the law’. I struggled for over three years to overcome this power and corruption, eliciting help from tens of private investigators, multiple attorneys, and eventually – the federal government. It was ultimately a groundswell of local residents and a grassroots campaign that afforded me the resources I needed to fight back,” Read said in a statement on Friday about her successful defense during two trials.
“This isn’t just a legal thriller. It’s about what happens when a single voice refuses to be silenced. Karen’s case reflects the complicated moment in time in which we live. We will have an opportunity to show layers that have never been brought to light, and we are committed to telling the story with urgency, nuance, and care,” LBI production head Julie Yorn added in another statement.
The movie promises details of the Karen Read story not yet disclosed to the public, the producers said. Plans are also underway for a book with the participation of Read and Jackson. That’s being shopped by a literary agent.
This won’t be the first movie based on real life events for LBI. They have production credits that include Killers of the Flower Moon.

In The Kitchen Tip: Laura McKenna’s Zucchini Boats Recipe
I love eating these in the summer fresh from the garden. Here’s the great part about this recipe: I just throw stuff in so it is very forgiving and more of a “guide” than a strict ingredient recipe. So there’s no reason your whole family wouldn’t enjoy it! Start with a large green zucchini. Slice […]

Movie Monday: Love is in the air
The reboot of The Naked Gun did a little more than bring in 17 million at the box office over the weekend. Rumor has it that it also sparked some flames between stars Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson. I personally hope those rumors are true. I’ve always thought Pamela was a sweetheart and hoped she’d […]
