August 15th is National Check Your Chip Day- reminding pet owners to microchip their furry friends and to check to make sure their microchip information is up to date.
If you already have a pet that’s microchipped, you might not think twice about this day but it never hurts to double check the info attached to the microchip. I can tell you from first-hand experience that my husband and I love our pets as much as we love each other and even we realized things weren’t up to date.
I had switched cell phone numbers (so a call to that old number in an emergency would have prolonged the process of getting a missing pet back- if at all!)
And my husband had been married before when he adopted his dog and the microchip was first implanted. He’s been divorced for many years and never thought about updating his dog’s microchip contact names/numbers until the vet suggested doing so on his last visit (when he added my name to his patient file).
It’s a simple process that could save you so much stress and worry if the nightmare of losing your pet ever happens. Let’s hope none of us ever have to rely on the microchip to get our furbabies back home safe and sound. But man will we be glad we double checked now for accurate information if we do!

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: The Best Black Bean Pumpkin Soup
This soup is wonderful!! So good, in fact, that I will need to make it again very soon because I’ve already almost scarfed down the entire pot. As I was flipping through the recent Eating Well Soups magazine (which is AMAZING), I came across this recipe. Pumpkin in soup? Hmm, I don’t know about that. […]

Movie Monday: Some great scary movies and a big disappointment
I must have been missing something because it seems that everyone was loving the movie Sinners. It made around $279 million in the United States and Canada and a worldwide total of approximately $367 million. It’s even returning to some IMAX theaters for Halloween. I popped some popcorn on Saturday night and settled in prepared […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Use This To Keep Your Jack-O’-Lantern Fresh
Keep your Jack-O’-Lantern from getting too gummy too soon with lemon juice! It also works to keep the bugs from feasting on your artwork. Use a generous amount of lemon juice and brush it inside the carved pumpkin. The lemon juice slows the oxidation process (which causes the pumpkin to rot and get nasty). Bugs […]
