This IN THE KITCHEN tip actually takes place: IN THE GAS STATION.
I’ve had a lot of breakfast sandwiches in my day- from restaurants, grab-and-go convenience stores, and lots of them simply made at home.
Hands down, this one is THE BEST. I’m naming it “The McKenna”. Kwik Trip doesn’t know it yet so if you go in and ask for one, they might give you a strange look. But I bet it would be a best seller!
At Kwik Trip, you will find a delightful pre-made breakfast sandwich on their Hot Spot and then I always jazz it up a bit with two more ingredients to make it the best sandwich you’ll ever eat.
Honestly, on its own, the Kwik Trip Western Omelette Croissant with Cheese is great. A buttery croissant holds an omelette style egg with little peppers cooked right inside and topped with a slice of cheese.
But here’s how it to make “The McKenna”. If you time it right when the breakfast sandwiches are still being served and the condiment salad bar is stocked and ready to go for the lunch sandwiches, you can add Chipotle sauce (it’ll be in a squeeze bottle) and sauerkraut.
Weird combo, right? Oh, my friend, it’s not weird at all! It’s soooo good!
It’s what breakfast sandwich dreams are made of. Try one! If you love a little zing and live for sauerkraut and deliciousness, you will love my favorite sandwich. The flavor explosion is next level.
My husband will be vising this week and I told him we’re having a big Kwik Trip breakfast date for these sandwiches. Unfortunately, he still lives in Ohio and they don’t have Kwik Trips there so what a treat it will be. I can’t wait for him to try “The McKenna”….and you, too!
Let me know how much you love it when you do!

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Pierogi
I’m always amazed to hear that so many people have never had a pierogi! You have no idea what you’re missing. Homemade versions are delicious but there’s nothing wrong with grabbing a box from the frozen food aisle to try. You can boil these mashed potato dumplings and garnish as you wish…. Or, try my […]

Movie Review: The Exorcism of Emily Rose
The fact that I waited 20 years to watch this movie is a crying shame! The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) combines two of my favorite kinds of movies: Courtroom Dramas and Scary Movies (especially the demonic possession kind). For fans of the show Ozark, you’ll recognize Laura Linney. She plays the defense attorney that […]

Movie Review: Trap
It pains me to say this about an M. Night Shyamalan movie, but I found one I didn’t like. We’ve joked on the show that I should be the captain of the “Give M. Night Movies A Try” fan club because the critics are usually so harsh and while I haven’t seen all of his […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Orange Vinaigrette Recipe
I’ve been on an Oil & Vinegar dressing kick lately but I also like a zingy Raspberry Vinaigrette every now and again. I had a few extra oranges on hand and thought- How about an Orange Vinaigrette? That might be tasty! So I messed around and came up with this perfect ratio of a sweet […]
