I am not one to normally shy away from Garlic Salt. Salt on popcorn is pretty delicious, too.
But on this August 29th, it happens to be “More Herbs, Less Salt” Day. (Which really is a thing, I’m not just making that up.)
If you happen to pick up a Mrs. Dash (which is a salt-free blend of spices) or the store-brand generic form and give it a whirl, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at just how good something that’s salt-free can be.
I love to cook and I think we tend to underutilize all the herbs and spices that are at our disposal. None of which require any amount of salt to be tasty.
So if you’re looking to cut back on sodium, or just looking to add to your spice collection, give one of my favorites a try.
If you really want to have your mind blown, start a little herb garden on your window sill and add the fresh herbs to your cooking. Poof! Mind and taste bud explosion, waiting to happen…
But if that seems a little overwhelming, simply reaching into your cabinet for one of these salt-free shakers will be a good place to start!

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: The Best Black Bean Pumpkin Soup
This soup is wonderful!! So good, in fact, that I will need to make it again very soon because I’ve already almost scarfed down the entire pot. As I was flipping through the recent Eating Well Soups magazine (which is AMAZING), I came across this recipe. Pumpkin in soup? Hmm, I don’t know about that. […]
