Check Ya Fridge!
I used to work with a great chef that would famously yell out “Check Ya Sauce!” if there was an unattended skillet sauteing on the burner. He would remind those in the kitchen to “Check Ya Milk” to make sure the date was fresh before adding it to a recipe.
So I instantly thought of him when I heard about the Salmonella Egg recall and could hear his voice bellow: “Check Ya Eggs!”
Seriously, check your eggs. And your apple juice… but we’ll get to that. Let’s start first with the Milo’s Egg Recall.
There’s a multi-state egg recall underway after more than 60 salmonella cases were reported as of today. Wisconsin-based Milo’s Poultry Farms is recalling “Milo’s Poultry Farms” eggs and “Tony’s Fresh Market” eggs in nine states. The states include Virginia, Iowa, Minnesota, Colorado, Utah, California, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

Next up: Check Ya Juice!
There is a multi-state recall of apple juice (yes, here in Wisconsin). The juice was sold at retailers including Walmart, Aldi, and Walgreens.
The recalled juice has a higher level of inorganic arsenic than what is allowed under the government regulation.
A number of brands produced by Refresco Beverages involved in the recall include:
- Great Value (Walmart brand)
- Market Basket
- Nature’s Nectar (Aldi brand)
- Nice! (Walgreens brand)
- Solevita
- Urban Meadow
- Weis
- Wellsley Farms
You’ll find a complete list of recalled apple juice by UPC number and “Best if used by” dates and recall information here for: Refresco Beverages.
So before breakfast again tomorrow morning- Check Ya Eggs! Check Ya Juice!

Movie Monday: The casting for two great books being turned into movies
I love a good book and I love a good movie. But not all great books turn into great movies. There’s nothing worse than loving a book and being so disappointed when you see that book made all wrong on the big screen. Sometimes it’s a switch in the plot. Don’t do that to us […]

In The Kitchen with Laura McKenna: Burger Tips
May 28th is National Burger Day! Despite being a vegetarian, I know my way around a delicious burger. It’s alllll about the toppings and I think there’s something that’s way underutilized: ONIONS! Now I love onions in all form and fashion: red, sweet, caramelized, raw. You name it, I’ll eat ’em. I also love an […]

Laura McKenna’s pick for the best sunscreen
This is a great example of “Do as I say, not as I do.” Yesterday, I planted my garden and I didn’t use any sunscreen. Today, I’ve turned into a juicy red tomato. Ugh! And I know better! May 27th is National Sunscreen Day for a reason. While I do love soaking up sunshine’s Vitamin […]

It’s Palindrome Time!
You might be wondering: What’s a palindrome? Well, I’m glad you asked because we’re in a Palindrome Week! The dates can be written the same frontward or back. For instance, today is May 21, 2025. That’s 5-21-25 or 52125 (read the same from the front or the back). That will continue all the way until […]
