Movie Monday: 2 Thrillers that Laura McKenna says are worth a watch

If you are fan of thrillers, I watched two good movies back-to-back on Saturday night.
STRAW DOGS
I started with the James Marsden and Kate Bosworth version of Straw Dogs from 2011. I honestly didn’t even know there was an original Straw Dogs with Dustin Hoffman from 1971 until I did some digging.
This one has some intense scenes so I know it won’t be for everyone but after watching the 2011 remake, I definitely want to go watch the 1971 original.
I also realized for the first time that Kate Bosworth has two different color eyes. You may have known that for years but I’m a little late to the party, I guess. One eye is brown and her other is blue. The condition is known as Heterochromia Iridum. Learning something new every day!
The movie also stars a Skarsgård brother. For the life of me, I can never tell those guys apart. I wanted to say it was Bill, but nope! Alexander Skarsgård. He’s the Skarsgård that played the husband in Big Little Lies. He was just as good (and awful) in that show as he was in this movie. You’ll know what I mean by that if you’ve seen one or the other.
If you’re scrolling for a thriller movie that keeps you hooked, this was good. So when I finished it, I was thinking that I could be a responsible adult and go to bed at a reasonable time to get a good night sleep and start my Sunday fresh and early. But I didn’t do that either. I wanted another good movie to follow it up with! As luck would have it, I found one….
WHAT YOU WISH FOR
This may sound like a sweet Rom-Com but trust me, it’s not. I don’t want to spoil anything about it so I won’t say too much other than…. Give it a watch.
It starts off right from the beginning hooking you in and while I wouldn’t say it’s a wild ride necessarily, it’s a ride you are very much hoping you (and the main character) can get off of unscathed. Not really a slow burn, but not intense action like Straw Dogs was at times. It’s more of that sinister unsettled feeling throughout the entire movie.
It (strangely) is believable and wraps up without leaving you hanging. I liked it a lot.
