I love scary movies and being an 80’s baby, I’m a little partial to the grainy quality of 80’s horror movies.
A Nightmare on Elm Street, Child’s Play, and of course, Friday the 13th.
I love ’em all. But there was something about the hockey mask. The chhh-chhh-chhh-haa-haa-haa. The slow, lumbering walk that always caught up with the running and screaming counselors. I just love all that is -and was- Jason Vorhees.
We’re celebrating that movie’s Anniversary this week. The original Friday the 13th came out this week back in 1980. May 9th, 1980 to be exact.
Do you remember back in the day when the USA Network would run Friday the 13th movie marathons on Friday the 13th with Rhonda Shear? Her famous “Up All Night!” squeal mixed with the back-to-back Jason movies that started at dark and ran all night long….I lived for that as a youngster! I would stay up all night long and couldn’t wait for the next time that the 13th fell on a Friday to watch the same movies all over again!
Now everything is high-def and on-demand streamable at any time on any day of the week, so its just different in 2025. But the nostalgia lives on for us fans. Happy Anniversary to all those who survived (or didn’t) at Camp Crystal Lake.

Movie Monday: Oscar winning actress teams up with James Patterson for a new legal thriller novel
I love a good book. Even better when a great book gets turned into a really good movie. It doesn’t always happen. Usually the book is always so much better than the movie but I can think of a few that really did it well: Water For Elephants. Gone Girl. The Shawshank Redemption. The Green […]
