I was so excited to hear that my girl, Amy Madigan, got an Oscar nomination this year. Much to my surprise, she actually won last night for BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS!
First, the show started way earlier than I thought it would so I missed the category entirely! But imagine my shock to find out that Amy won!
I have never been more surprised and more excited to be wrong! When the nominations first came out for this year’s Oscar awards and I saw that Amy Madigan was nominated for her role in Weapons–
1. I was so happy for her.
2. I just knew she wouldn’t win.
And I figured she wouldn’t win NOT BECAUSE she didn’t deserve to. I LOVED her in Weapons (2025). LOVED LOVED LOVED her character. She was great. But then again, I’ve loved her ever since I was a little girl and first fell in love with her character in Uncle Buck (1989). She played Uncle Buck’s girlfriend, Chanice Kobolowski, and I was smitten. She was great. She had the most uniquely squeaky, adorable voice I had ever heard before. And her character was just a sweetheart.
So without knowing much about Weapons other than it was a horror movie and I love scary movies, as you know…. my husband and I popped some popcorn and streamed it at home.
It wasn’t until the kitchen scene played out that I immediately sat up on the couch and said, “PAUSE THIS!” My husband, Alex, probably thought I needed –yet another– potty break.
But I just blurted out: “That’s Chanice!! That’s Chanice from Uncle Buck. It has to be!”
I don’t think he had any clue what I was talking about but I immediately grabbed my phone to look it up on IMDB and sure enough, the Weapons‘ role of Aunt Gladys was played by none other than Amy Madigan.
My girl! My favorite voice in all of Hollywood, Amy Madigan. The one and only Chanice Kobolowski transformed somehow into this crazy looking character on our screen. No way!!!! But it was, somehow, her! I’d know that cute little giggly squeak anywhere! And I hadn’t seen Uncle Buck in decades.
She looked nothing like Amy Madigan onscreen, which is exactly what an Oscar winner should do, right? They should transform into the character so you don’t see Amy onscreen and instead, all you can see is Gladys. And boy, she did! But that voice- I’d know it anywhere!
Here’s the thing though: The Oscars usually never go to my favorite movies and stars. And they certainly don’t go to horror movies. That’s just not how the Oscars roll. So even back when the nominations came out, I said on this very show: “I’m so happy for Amy Madigan’s Weapons nomination but mark my words- she will not win.“
And I am sooooooo excited that I was wrong! Because for once, the Oscars got it sooooooo right!
She took time out of her acceptance speech to thank the other nominees for being so nice to her. And she thanked her dogs. No wonder I love her….

Movie Monday: Oscar winning actress teams up with James Patterson for a new legal thriller novel
I love a good book. Even better when a great book gets turned into a really good movie. It doesn’t always happen. Usually the book is always so much better than the movie but I can think of a few that really did it well: Water For Elephants. Gone Girl. The Shawshank Redemption. The Green […]
