Voters are casting ballots to narrow the field in a three-way race for Wisconsin’s top education job. The post is at the forefront in the battleground state of the national fight over school funding. The top two vote-getters in today’s (Tuesday) primary will advance to the April 1 general election. The incumbent, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jill Underly, was first elected in 2021 with the support of Democrats and teachers unions. But this year she faces a challenge on the left from Sauk Prairie Superintendent Jeff Wright, a two-time Democratic candidate for state Assembly. Brittany Kinser, an education consultant and advocate for the private voucher school choice program, is backed by Republicans.

Residents in the Town of Buena Vista also have a local Primary Election for Town Supervisors. Five candidates are vying for two spots. Names as they appear on the ballot are: Jake Kleckner, Zachary Thome, Ronald Morris, Gordon Brockway, and Jeremiah Robert Ringelstetter.

Polls are open until 8:00 tonight.
