Mike McKay
Mornings with Mike McKay
Mike is BACK on the air every morning all across Eau Claire and the Chippewa Valley on 105-7 CFW! With over 28+ years in the Chippewa Valley, this has become home for Mike and his wife Lori. His kids grew up here and they still live here as well. When he's not on the air waking up the Valley, Mike spends time working around the house and yard as well as relaxing on the deck, usually more time relaxing than working! Weekends mean exploring the area and even after all these years, both he and his wife Lori still find things they've never seen before. Mike enjoys a little bit of online poker and spending quality time with his Pomeranian GiGi and kitty "Violet". Oh, and hockey is the only sport that matters in his house, "GO WILD"!

Do you really miss the good old days?
Have you had this conversation or thought recently, “I miss the good old days”? It seems whenever I have that thought it’s because life is crazy and overly serious. You know, you start thinking about the past and most of the time, which is good, you go to happy memories. I think what we miss […]

National School Picture Day!
I’m not sure how it goes now, but when I went to school, picture day would just happen. What I mean is, you’d walk into class and the teacher would say “it’s picture day”. No heads up, no warning, so whatever you were wearing that day would go down in history. This is me in […]

Where were you?
If you around, you know exactly where you were when the news broke. Myself, I was doing my radio show (B95) and was talking on the air. Our on-air studio looked into the news room and we had TV monitors and they all showed one of the Twin Towers in New York City on fire. […]

10 hot dogs, 8 buns!
It’s the age old question, why do they sell hot dogs in packs of 10 but the buns in packs of 8? The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council has spoken and this is what they say about it. Hot dog bun makers bake in clusters of four in pans designed to hold eight rolls. […]

Waiting is fun…right?
I think most of us don’t like waiting. Obviously, there’s times that we have to but most of the time it’s just terrible. The post office, the DMV, the left turn light on Clairemont and Fairfax, or that one relative that’s always late for family meals like Thanksgiving. A recent study shows the average American […]

I’m a winner again!
It’s only Tuesday and I’m a winner again! This time it’s Yeti cooler. Well, that’s what the email said this morning. All I had to do was ‘click and win’. September has just started and I’ve already “won” a Yeti cooler, PS4, shopping spree at Dick’s Sporting Goods and a years supply of steaks. It’s […]

Have you tried this yet?
Labor day weekend is upon us and hopefully you’ll get a chance to enjoy it. If a bonfire or campfire is in your plans, you may have some s’mores in those plans too. Sooooooooo, have you tried this game changer? Dump the graham crackers and the Hersey bars and use fudge striped cookies instead. Maybe […]

Can’t believe it’s been 15-years.
Hard to believe, but it was 2009 when Michael Jackson passed away. 15-years ago! Michael would have been 66 today. No denying the impact he made on pop music over the years. My personal favorite has to be Man in the Mirror.

Are you kidding me?
I shared this story on the air. United Airlines recently had to ground some of their planes because of a rule still in place by the FAA. The rule stated that pilots on a commercial plane must have a working on and off switch for the No Smoking Sign. Yes, the pilots needs to be […]

Is it just me?
Let’s use Clairemont Ave. in Eau Claire as an example. Do you feel a great sense of accomplishment if you go through 3, 4 maybe 5 lights in a row and hit every green light? When that happens my whole world seems a little brighter. We all need to embrace the small victories in life. […]

Time to pump the brakes!
Is it me, or is everybody rushing things? Some places are already rolling out Pumpkin Spice flavors, Halloween deco in stores and Hallmark Channel said they’ll start their Christmas movie marathons in mid-October! I blame the microwave oven for starting this trend. Since the microwave oven was introduced years and years ago we don’t want […]

Left Handers Day!
In 6th grade I was the only ‘lefty’ in my class. I thought it was pretty cool to be different, finally something about me was unique. But, I also remember that’s when I really started to notice how the world was really set up for right handers. It’s ok, as a lefty you learn to […]

It’s National Middle Child Day!
August 12th is the day that celebrates the ‘middle child’. You know, not the oldest, not the youngest, just right there in the middle. But, today is the day to embrace your middleness (is that a word?). Sometimes being in the middle isn’t that bad, you can fly under the radar. To all the middle […]

“Hold my purse”
Lori and I have been together a LONG time and she’s asked me to do that numerous times when we’ve been in stores. So, I searched it on google and found a survey that asked that question to guys about holding a purse for their wife or girlfriend. The results, 87-percent of men said they […]

It hurts to think!
Have you ever thought “my head hurts from all this thinking”? First off, you’re not alone and secondly, science says you may be right. Researchers in the Netherlands say that mental effort (thinking) is consistently linked to unpleasant feelings, challenging our assumptions about the joys of intellectual pursuits. In our world of multi-tasking it’s easy […]

Back to school shopping, is Summer over?
No doubt you’ve seen the ‘back to school’ sections and signs at the store but does that mean Summer is over? No! And the reason I say that is I have also seen HALLOWEEN items for sale already and I know it’s not October. Yes, buy some of those school supplies but don’t give up […]

Is it ‘the band’ or a tribute band?
I had this conversation with a buddy of mine recently. We were on the topic of a well known rock band that has been together and touring for decades. He called them a tribute band. His thought was the original singer wasn’t in the band and only a couple of the original members were still […]

If you leave this in your hot car, throw it away!
I was just reading about things that you shouldn’t leave in your hot car. Check this out. A clear plastic water bottle left in the cup holder could actually pose a very serious risk. Experts warn it could actually start a fire. Sunlight beaming into the car can be reflected by the water in the […]
